Use CRL Bond Breaker Tape (SKU: 827T12) to ensure a correct two-way sealant bond. This clear, tough plastic tape features a clear polyethylene adhesive backing, measures eight mils (0.2 mm) thick, and delivers high adhesion to steel and other structural metals. Proper bond breaking prevents sealant from adhering to the joint bottom so the sealant bonds only to the walls—allowing controlled expansion and preventing tearing or failure. For shallow joints, apply Bond Breaker Tape to the bottom of the joint so sealant bonds only to the sides. For metal butt joints, apply tape to metal edges so sealant can be “buttered” over the joint and expand or compress correctly. Use this bond breaker tape when you need reliable performance on metal butt joints, shallow-joint sealant applications, or when a clear, low-profile backing is required.
