Overview
- Controls sealant depth and functions as an effective bond breaker
- Compatible with all cold-applied and self-leveling sealants
- Soft extruded polyolefin material allows for easy compression during installation
CRL Sof® Rod (SKU: SR2C) is a dual-celled backer rod and advanced sealant backing material that combines open- and closed-cell performance in a single continuous extruded polyolefin foam. The non-absorbent outer skin and resilient internal structure resist out-gassing when the skin is ruptured, helping prevent sealant bubbling and bond failure. Chemically inert, Sof® Rod is compatible with virtually all known cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling types, making it ideal for glazing and exterior joint sealing applications.
CRL Sof® Rod is available in diameters from 3/8” to 2” (10 to 51 mm).
Temperature Limits:
-45° to 160°F (-43° to 71°C)
Common Applications:
Glazing, curtain wall construction, partitions, parking decks, bridge joints, modular home gasketing, and log home chinking.
Size Selection:
Select a backer rod 25–50% larger than the joint width to control sealant depth and ensure a proper bond-breaker fit.
Storage:
Store in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Keep away from heat sources and open flames.
Joint Preparation:
- New Joints: Remove form-release agents, curing compounds, dirt, and debris. Ensure joints are clean and dry before applying sealant.
- Repairing Old Joints: Remove all old sealant or filler. Clean with wire brushing and air blasting. If using compressed air, use moisture and oil traps.
Installation Instructions:
- Prepare the surface following the Joint Preparation directions.
- Measure and Select: Choose the correct backer rod diameter based on the joint width.
- Set Depth: Install the backer rod to the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer so the sealant forms the proper "hourglass" profile.
- Use the Right Tools: Install with a blunt tool or roller. For smooth installation use Cat. No. T607CU605 or Cat. No. SBRR.
COLOR VARIATION:
Product shades or tones may vary and will not affect performance.
