FA Series 2/20 Weight Range Sash Balances accepts several types of nylon guides riveted to the top and bottom of the metal channel. Customers can order channel balances with guides pre-attached, or purchase guide kits (rivets included) and install the guides in the field. For faster installation, use CRL Cat. No.
H3740 Rivet Set Tool, which mushrooms the rivet for a strong, reliable set. These 5/8" channel balances are designed for residential and commercial single- and double-hung windows where precise sash counterbalance is required.
Ordering Tips for FA Series Sash Balances
- Remove the existing channel balance and measure the metal channel only — do not include the guides. Record the length in full-inch increments.
- Always check for the stamped or laser-etched identifier on the back of the channel balance (four numbers or two numbers and a letter), e.g., 2710 or 27-2. Use that identifier to cross-reference the CRL chart.
- Example: a full 18" (457 mm) channel with ID 1710 or 17-1 corresponds to CRL Cat. No. FA1710. A full 27" channel with ID 2610 or 26-2 corresponds to FA2610.
Notes on Special Weights and Lengths
- Some manufacturers used special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths. These are not stocked but can be special ordered.
- The chart lists vent weight ranges (the sash weight a pair will support) — it does not account for excessive weatherstrip friction. Use the weight chart for reference or when the stamped number is unreadable.
- Standard stocked chart covers FA1210 through FA4240. The 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 indicate counter-balance weight designations. Codes such as 90 or 9 (e.g., 2790-26) or suffixes like "DS" (e.g., 27DS-34) indicate special-weight balances made for specific sash weights or for upper/lower sashes; provide this information when ordering. Special-weight balances can be produced by special order.
