Each CRL
FA Series 3/30 Weight Range Sash Balances is a heavy-duty window channel balance designed for reliable counterbalance of single- and double-hung sashes. Each channel requires a pair of nylon guides riveted to the top and bottom for smooth operation and long life. For strongest rivet installation, use Cat. No. H3740 Rivet Set Tool (sold separately), which mushrooms the rivet to form a durable, vibration-resistant set.
Guide options: FS290B, FS291B, FS292B, FS293B, FS294B, FS295B, FS296B, FS297B, FS298B, FS299B
Ordering tips for FA Series sash balances Remove the existing channel balance from the window and measure the metal channel only. Do not include the nylon guides. Measure to the nearest full inch — stocked lengths are full-inch increments.
NOTE: A few manufacturers used special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths; these are not stocked but can be special ordered.
Always check the stamped or laser-etched number on the back of the channel balance — either four digits or two digits plus a dash and a digit (for example: 2710 or 27-2). Use that number to cross-reference the CRL chart. For example, an 18" (457 mm) channel stamped 1710 or 17-1 corresponds to CRL Cat. No. FA1710; a 27" channel stamped 2610 or 26-1 corresponds to FA2610.
The chart also lists vent weight ranges — the pair capacity for sash weight. This rating excludes additional friction from heavy weatherstripping.
NOTE: Use the stamped number as primary identification; the weight-range chart is for reference only if the stamp is unreadable.
Special weight-range channel balances are available by special order. Standard stocked catalog numbers run from FA1210 to FA4240. The numeric weight designations (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) indicate the counter-balance weight range. If your channel balance shows a 90 or a single 9 (for example: 2790-26) it was manufactured to carry a specific sash weight (26 lb per pair in this example). A "DS" suffix (for example 27DS-34) indicates balances made for a specific sash (upper or lower) and a fixed sash weight. Provide this suffix/weight information when ordering special balances.
