Overview
- For fast cutting, high-production glass drilling
- Extended work life with multi-layer diamond matrix
- Two mounting styles: straight shank or Belgian (gas) thread
These CRL Electro-Formed Diamond Drills (SKU: DCD312) are thin-walled, featuring a 1/2" (12.7 mm) deep multi-layer diamond coating and bonding matrix engineered for high-speed, high-production drilling of plate glass. Use for precision glass drilling when exacting conditions are met. The CRL DCD Series includes an extra-long 1-3/8" x 3/8" (35 x 10 mm) diameter straight shank for positive grip; the CRL HBT Series offers Belgian-style mounting threads (1/2" / 12.7 mm gas thread), compatible with many U.S. and European glass drilling machines.
These electro-formed diamond drill bits deliver fast cutting and consistent hole quality when used properly. Because the DCD/HBT bits are extremely thin-walled, they are fragile and must be used only in precision, production-style drilling presses on flat plate glass. Do not freehand drill — use a stabilization base such as the GDB1 or GDB2 Glass Drilling Bases for safe, accurate results. Sharpening or "dressing" with a dressing stone before each use significantly improves cutting performance and prolongs tool life.
IMPORTANT NOTE: CRL DCD and HBT Series diamond drills are intended for flat (plate) glass only. Improper use can damage the bit and void the warranty.
Always wear appropriate safety gear (gloves and eye protection) and work on a flat, horizontal surface. Use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter whenever operating electric tools with water or coolant to prevent shock. Failure to follow safety precautions can result in injury.
