These CRL Electro-Formed Diamond Drills are thin-walled, with a 1/2" (12.7 mm) deep multi-layer diamond matrix and bonding designed for high-speed, high-production glass drilling. These electro-formed diamond drills deliver precise holes when used under recommended conditions. The CRL DCD Series includes an extra-long 1-3/8" x 3/8" (35 x 9.5 mm) diameter shank for a secure grip; the CRL HBT Series (SKU HBT38) features Belgian-style 1/2" (12.7 mm, gas) mounting threads commonly used on U.S. and European glass drilling machines.
Due to their very thin walls, these drills are EXTREMELY FRAGILE and intended for drilling flat (plate) glass ONLY in a true running, production-type drilling press. Never use freehand or excessive pressure — use a precision machine and a stabilization base such as CRL GDB1 or GDB2 when bench mounting. Sharpening or "dressing" the drill before each use with a dressing stone significantly improves cutting performance and is strongly recommended.
Safety & handling: Always wear gloves and eye protection. Perform work on a flat, horizontal surface. Use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter when an electric tool is used with water or coolant. Improper use may damage the bit and void the warranty.
