Overview

  • Designed for fast cutting and high-production glass drilling
  • Extended work life with multi-layer electro-formed diamond matrix
  • Two mounting styles: Straight shank or Belgian (HBT) thread

These CRL Electro-Formed Diamond Drills (SKU: DCD3) are thin-walled glass drill bits featuring a 1/2" (12.7 mm) deep, multi-layer diamond and bonding matrix engineered for high-speed, high-production drilling. Ideal for precision glass drilling presses, these electro-formed diamond drill bits deliver consistent, clean holes when used under exacting conditions. The CRL DCD Series includes an extra-long 1-3/8" x 3/8" (35 x 10 mm) diameter shank for a positive grip; the CRL HBT Series uses Belgian-style 1/2" (12.7 mm, gas) threads compatible with many U.S. and European glass drilling machines.

Because these diamond drills have very thin walls, they are EXTREMELY FRAGILE and must be used on flat (plate) glass only in a true-running production drilling press. Never use excessive pressure. Always handle with care and avoid freehand drilling. Sharpening or "dressing" the bit before each use with a dressing stone greatly improves cutting performance—use a dressing stone for best results. For stabilized hand-held setups, use a stabilization base such as the GDB1 or GDB2 Glass Drilling Bases.

Safety & Warranty: Use proper safety gear (gloves and eye protection) and work on a flat, horizontal surface. A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter must be used with any electric tool when water or coolant is present. Improper use or use outside these specifications may damage the bit and void the warranty.
