FA Series 3/30 Weight Range Sash Balances (SKU FA3230) is a durable channel balance for window sash replacement that requires one of several types of nylon guides to be riveted to the top and bottom of the metal channel. For secure installation, customers can mount guides using the Cat. No. H3740 Rivet Set Tool (sold separately), which mushrooms the rivet for a stronger set—an advantage for long-lasting window balance performance.
Guide Options are: FS290B, FS291B, FS292B, FS293B, FS294B, FS295B, FS296B, FS297B, FS298B, and FS299B
Ordering Tips for FA Series Sash Balances Remove the existing channel balance from the window and measure the metal channel only (do not include the nylon guides). Measure to the nearest full inch. These measurements are used to select the correct replacement channel balance length.
NOTE: A few window manufacturers used special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths; these are not normally stocked but can be special ordered.
Always check the stamped or laser-etched number on the back of the channel balance. This identifier will be either four digits or two digits and a letter (for example: 2710 or 27-2).
Use the stamped number to cross-reference the CRL chart. For example, a full 18" (457 mm) channel with a stamped number 1710 or 17-1 corresponds to CRL Cat. No. FA1710. A full 27" channel with number 2610 or 26-1 corresponds to FA2610. The chart indicates vent weight ranges — the sash weight a pair of channel balances will support, excluding excessive weatherstrip friction.
NOTE: Use the weight range chart for reference or when the stamped number is hard to read.
Special weight-range channel balances are available by special order. The standard stocked range covers FA1210 to FA4240. The digits 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 denote the counter-balance weight designation. If your channel balance shows a 90 or 9 (for example: 2790-26), it was manufactured to carry a specific sash weight per pair (26 lb in this example). Balances with "DS" after the length (for example 27DS-34) indicate a special weight balance (34 lb) sometimes made for upper or lower sashes only
