These
CRL Electro-Formed Diamond Drills (SKU: DCD716) are thin-walled diamond drill bits engineered for high-speed, high-production drilling of flat plate glass. They feature a 1/2" (12.7 mm) deep multi-layer diamond bond for aggressive cutting and an extra-long 1-3/8" x 3/8" (35 x 10 mm) diameter shank on the DCD Series for a secure grip in production presses. The HBT Series uses Belgian-style (1/2" / 12.7 mm gas) mounting threads commonly used on U.S. and European glass drilling machines.
Because these drills have an extremely thin wall, they are very fragile and intended for precision machine use only. Never apply excessive pressure; use flat, horizontal surfaces and a stable drilling press. Sharpening or "dressing" the drill with a diamond dressing stone before use will substantially improve cutting performance—dressing stones are strongly recommended for electro-formed diamond drill maintenance.
IMPORTANT NOTE: CRL DCD and HBT Series Diamond Drills are designed exclusively for drilling flat (plate) glass in production-type drilling presses.
NEVER perform freehand drilling. Hand drills require a stabilization base such as the CRL GDB1 or GDB2 Glass Drilling Bases. Improper use may damage the drill and void the warranty.
Always wear appropriate safety gear (gloves, eye protection) and use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (
GFCl) when using electric tools with water or coolant. Failure to follow safety precautions can result in operator injury.
