Turning the lever downward activates the dead latch; a heavy-duty spring returns the lever automatically to a fully horizontal position for reliable, repeatable operation. Escutcheon measures 1-3/8" x 4" (35 x 102 mm) and uses a 1/4" (6 mm) square hardened spindle that interlocks in the cam plug for secure engagement.
