All glass polishing and surface restoration systems that demand the highest clarity use cerium oxide in the final process. CRL Cerium Oxide Compounds (SKU: C0853) are refined from high-quality rare earth minerals to deliver bright, optical finishes for glass polishing, mirror silvering lines, edging, beveling, and surface restoration.

CRL Cerium Oxide Compounds are formulated for use with hand pads for light cleanup, powered hand devices for scratch and surface repair, mechanized scrubbers, or as the final polishing step in multi-stage machines. These compounds maintain a uniform particle size (average 1.0–1.5 microns) and a high concentration of rare earth oxides to produce superior clarity and low subsurface roughness.

Designed for recirculating slurry systems, the compound offers exceptional suspension and soft settling so glass and equipment are easier to clean. Polishing combines mechanical and chemical action: a thin paste of cerium oxide and water is agitated with a damp felt pad or wheel to generate the heat needed for the reaction. Keep the paste wet during polishing to prevent drying and loss of effectiveness.

For recirculating slurry use, measure concentration by Degrees Baume with a hydrometer. Mix heated water (at least 80ºF / 30ºC) and cerium oxide, then take a surface reading. Typical guidelines: 1º Baume (~1.6 oz per gallon / 11.8 g per liter) for light cleaning/pre-silvering; 3º–5º Baume (~4–7.2 oz per gallon / 29.7–53.7 g per liter) for beveling and edging. Maintain slurry temperature between 90ºF and 105ºF (32ºC–40ºC) for optimum polishing performance.
