Overview

  • Ready-to-use glazing compound for wood and metal sash
  • Smooth, creamy consistency—easy to tool and form
  • Paintable putty: must be painted after skinning
CRL DAP® '33'® Glazing Compound (SKU: 33GLW) is a smooth, flexible glazing putty formulated for face glazing wood and metal window frames. It adheres firmly to glass and sash to form a reliable air- and watertight seal that resists sagging, shrinking, chalking, and cracking. Ideal for restoration and new glazing projects where a traditional, paintable glazing compound is required. SURFACE PREPARATION & APPLICATION
  • Mix entire container until completely uniform; separate product may occur—roll into coils to warm and soften if needed.
  • Surfaces must be clean, dry, and frost-free. Remove all old putty and bedding when re-glazing.
  • Unprimed or unpainted wood sash must be primed first with an oil-based primer and allowed to dry.
  • Apply about 1/8" of DAP® '33'® Glazing to the sash backstop as back-bedding before setting glass.
  • For metal sash, use spacer shims at quarter points to maintain a minimum 1/8" bedding thickness; avoid metal- or wood-to-glass contact.
  • Tool glazing to shed water—smooth to an angle with a putty knife for best water runoff.
  • Allow glazing to skin and attain a firm set before painting—typical dry time is 1–2 weeks depending on temperature and humidity.
  • For best paint adhesion, use a high-quality oil-based paint; when using latex, prime first with an oil-based primer.
Product Warning:
  • Do not thin glazing compound.
  • Do not apply when air or sash temperatures are below 40ºF (4ºC).
  • Not for use on plastic window panes, insulating glass units with organic seals, any pane over 48" (1.22 m), or metal sash with rabbets over 1-1/4" (32 mm) wide.
  • Not recommended for stained or leaded glass projects.
  • Clean tools immediately after use with mineral spirits.
