Smooth Creamy Consistency
Overview
- Ready-to-use glazing compound for wood and metal sash
- Smooth, creamy consistency—easy to tool and form
- Paintable putty: must be painted after skinning
- Mix entire container until completely uniform; separate product may occur—roll into coils to warm and soften if needed.
- Surfaces must be clean, dry, and frost-free. Remove all old putty and bedding when re-glazing.
- Unprimed or unpainted wood sash must be primed first with an oil-based primer and allowed to dry.
- Apply about 1/8" of DAP® '33'® Glazing to the sash backstop as back-bedding before setting glass.
- For metal sash, use spacer shims at quarter points to maintain a minimum 1/8" bedding thickness; avoid metal- or wood-to-glass contact.
- Tool glazing to shed water—smooth to an angle with a putty knife for best water runoff.
- Allow glazing to skin and attain a firm set before painting—typical dry time is 1–2 weeks depending on temperature and humidity.
- For best paint adhesion, use a high-quality oil-based paint; when using latex, prime first with an oil-based primer.
- Do not thin glazing compound.
- Do not apply when air or sash temperatures are below 40ºF (4ºC).
- Not for use on plastic window panes, insulating glass units with organic seals, any pane over 48" (1.22 m), or metal sash with rabbets over 1-1/4" (32 mm) wide.
- Not recommended for stained or leaded glass projects.
- Clean tools immediately after use with mineral spirits.
