Overview
- Superior weather resistance and UV stability
- 100% solids butyl/polyisobutylene compound — no solvents
- Available in Aluminum and Black — pre-formed architectural glazing tape
CRL Tremco® 440 Butyl Architectural Tape (SKU 71029G1) is a pre-formed, permanently elastic butyl sealant tape for non-compression glazing and lap sealing. The 100% solids compound (butyl and polyisobutylene) contains no solvents or volatiles that cause shrinkage or sealant failure. Tremco® 440 forms a watertight seal to prevent water infiltration, remains highly adhesive and flexible at low temperatures, and provides superior weather and UV resistance. Ideal for glazing vision lites and spandrel panels in metal and wood frames for low-rise construction, and for lap sealing between steel, aluminum, porcelain, and other similar or dissimilar materials.
Typical Properties:
Base Polymer: cross-linked butyl rubber (polyisobutylene); Solids Content: 100% by weight; Cure Time: fully cured before application; Hardness: 65 durometer Shore "00"; Temperature Range: application 20°F (-7°C) to 120°F (49°C); Service -40°F (-40°C) to 158°F (70°C); Weathering: unaffected by ultraviolet through glass; remains flexible at low temperatures.
Limitations / Product Warning: Not for use in joints subjected to continuous water immersion or temperatures exceeding 158°F (70°C). Not recommended for glass lites over 75" (1.91 m); for larger lites consider a higher-performance system such as CRL Tremco® Pre-Shimmed Butyl Tape.
Applicable Standards: AAMA 800-92, 804.3, and 807.3.
Good Glazing Practices: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of frost or standing water. Solvent wipe with MEK, toluene, or naphtha and allow to dry. Provide positive contact and about 10% compression to fully marry surfaces. Use clips or wedges to keep tape under compression for best seals. Always use 80 durometer Shore "A" setting blocks at sill quarter points; use spacing shims to accommodate wind load for large lites. Place sill rabbet tape at or above the sight line unless a cap bead is specified (then place tape 3/16" / 4.76 mm below the sight line). Butt tape ends—do not overlap or stretch. Keep release paper in place until ready to set the glass.
