Description
Overview
- Compatible for Insulating Glass Glazing
- Excellent Adhesion to Most Surfaces
- Low Odor, Non-Acetic Cure Formula
CRL RTV408 Industrial and Construction Silicone (SKU: RTV408AL) is a neutral-cure, medium-modulus, 100% silicone sealant that cures to a tough, flexible rubber when exposed to moisture. RTV408 provides primerless adhesion to aluminum, stainless steel, most plastics, rigid PVC (vinyl), phenolic resin, glass, ceramic, and most reflective-coated glasses—making it an ideal silicone sealant for insulating glass glazing and commercial window seals. All surfaces must be properly cleaned and the sealant tooled for good adhesion. Cat. No. S1L2100 Primer may be required for some substrates. Review crlaurence.com/sealants-technical for our Sealant Guidelines to Good Glazing.
Key differentiators: primerless adhesion to many substrates, low-odor non-acetic neutral cure, wide service temperature (-65° to 400°F / -54° to 204°C), primer option for difficult substrates (S1L2100), and available mildew-resistant formulations (RTV408W, RTV408T).
BASIC USES: Fast cure and easy tooling for in-house production. Non-corrosive to most building materials including insulating glass, tiles, and sanitary equipment. Typical applications: curtainwall joints, vinyl/steel/aluminum windows, skylights, vehicles, ships, aircraft, and electrical insulation. Suitable for alkaline materials (mortar, cement) and other locations where metal corrosion is a concern. Can be applied at outdoor temperatures down to -20°F (-29°C) on clean, dry, frost-free surfaces and up to 100°F (38°C). RTV408W and RTV408T include a fungicide; cured sealant is mildew resistant.
All CRL Silicone Sealant cartridges include innovative Screw-On Nozzles for greater yield per tube. Nozzles are 4" (102 mm) long and tapered so you can trim to the bead size needed. To order additional nozzles, specify Cat. No. S1LN0Z.
LIMITATIONS: Not recommended for concrete and stone expansion joints; horizontal decks, patios, driveways or terraces subject to abrasion; submerged joints where porous surfaces allow water infiltration; structural sealing below the waterline in marine applications; structural glazing; food contact or potable water; mirrors.
