CRL Tremco® 440 Butyl Architectural Tape (SKU 710CAH5) is a pre-formed butyl glazing tape engineered for watertight seals in non-compression glazing applications. The 100% solids cross-linked butyl rubber (polyisobutylene) formula contains no solvents or volatiles, preventing shrinkage and long-term sealant failure. Tremco® 440 remains permanently elastic at low temperatures, adheres strongly to metals and glass, and is ideal for vision lites, spandrel panels, lap sealing between steel, aluminum or porcelain panels, and many other glazing joints in low-rise construction.

Typical Properties:
Base Polymer: cross-linked butyl rubber (polyisobutylene); Solids Content: 100% by weight; Cure: fully cured before application; Hardness: 65 durometer Shore "00"; Temperature Range: Application 20°F (-7°C) to 120°F (49°C); Service: -40°F (-40°C) to 158°F (70°C); Weathering: unaffected by UV through glass; remains flexible at low temperatures.

Limitations: Not for joints subjected to continuous water immersion or sustained temperatures above 158°F (70°C). Not recommended for glass lites over 75" (1.91 m); for larger lites consider CRL Tremco® Pre-Shimmed Butyl Tape or a higher-performance glazing system.

Applicable Standards: AAMA 800-92, 804.3, 807.3.

Good Glazing Practices:
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of frost or standing water. Solvent-wash with MEK, toluene, or naphtha as needed. At installation, ensure positive contact and approximately 10% compression to fully marry surfaces. Use clips or wedges to maintain compression for best seals. Always use 80 durometer Shore "A" setting blocks at sill quarter points; provide spacing shims for wind loading when glass exceeds 100". Place tape on the sill rabbet not below the sight line unless a cap bead is specified (then place tape 3/16" / 4.76 mm below the sight line to allow for the cap bead). Do not overlap tape ends—always butt ends without stretching. Keep release paper in place until ready to set the glass to protect tape adhesive.

Product Warning:
Follow all project specifications and local codes. Not for continuous immersion or service temperatures above 158°F (70°C). For oversized lites approaching 75" (1.91 m), specify a higher-performance glazing system.
