Made expressly for glazing steel, aluminum, or galvanized window sash, CRL Metal Sash Putty (SKU 5285GL) is a gray, no-prime glazing putty formulated to apply smoothly and blend with metal finishes. Ideal for re-glazing metal window sash where a durable, paintable seal is required.
Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and frost-free. Remove all old putty and bedding when re-glazing. If putty is firm, warm by hand—place glazing in palms and roll into coils to soften. Tool putty to an angle that sheds water. Typical dry time before painting is four to six weeks, depending on temperature and humidity. Putty must be painted after it has skinned over and attained a firm set; use a high-quality oil-based paint for best results.
Technical Data: Meets Federal Specification TT-G-410E; ASTM C 669-75, C669, D2249, D2376, C797.
Important: Do not thin this putty. Never add solvents, oils, or color pigments—putty cannot be tinted or colored by adding pigments.
Mixing Instructions: Mix the ENTIRE contents of the container prior to use. Empty the entire container onto glass or a plastic surface and work the oils into the putty until uniform. Do NOT mix small portions (this can produce batches that are too dry or too oily). Do NOT mix on cardboard (cardboard will absorb oils).
Check the spec data sheet for additional application guidelines and limitations. Note: Best-by shelf life is approximately 6–8 months if stored sealed.
