Overview
- Fast cutting for high-production glass drilling
- Extended work life with multi-layer diamond matrix
- Two mounting styles: Straight shank or Belgian (gas) thread
These CRL Electro-Formed Diamond Drills are thin-walled diamond drill bits engineered for high-speed, high-production drilling of flat glass. Each bit features a 1/2" (12.7 mm) deep multi-layer diamond matrix and bonding system for consistent cutting performance. The CRL DCD Series includes an extra-long 1-3/8" x 3/8" (35 x 9.5 mm) diameter shank for a positive grip; the CRL HBT Series (SKU HBT112) uses Belgian style mounting threads (1/2" gas thread) common to U.S. and European glass drilling machines.
Because these thin-walled electro-formed diamond drills are extremely fragile, use only in a precision production drilling press on flat, horizontal glass. Do not apply excessive pressure. Proper dressing or sharpening with a diamond dressing stone before each use will substantially improve cutting efficiency—dressing stones are recommended for electro-formed diamond drill maintenance.
IMPORTANT NOTE: CRL DCD and HBT Series diamond drills have very thin walls and are intended for drilling flat (plate) glass ONLY in true running, production-type drilling presses. They are not suitable for freehand drilling.
NEVER use these drills freehand. Hand drills require a stabilization base such as our GDB1 or GDB2 Glass Drilling Bases. Misuse can damage the bit and void the warranty.
Always wear proper safety gear (gloves and eye protection) when drilling glass. Use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) when operating electric tools with water or coolant. Failure to follow safety precautions can result in operator injury.
