Overview
- Controls sealant depth and functions as an effective bond breaker for joint sealants
- Compatible with all cold-applied and hot-pour sealants
- Soft, highly compressible material allows easy compression during installation
CRL Open Cell Backer Rod (SKU: B0CBR112) is a soft, round, highly compressible polyurethane foam backer rod engineered for sealing and backing cold-applied sealant joints. Its open-cell construction flexes to conform to irregular or damaged joints and resists stress from dynamic joint movement, making it ideal for use with high-performance silicones and urethanes.
Available diameters: 5/8” to 2” (16 to 51 mm).
Unlike closed-cell rods, open-cell backer rod eliminates the risk of outgassing when punctured—beneficial for sensitive sealant applications.
Temperature Limits:
-60° to +500°F (-15° to +260°C)
Application:
Best used in vertical and horizontal wall joints. Not recommended for horizontal traffic surfaces such as pavement joints.
Size Selection:
Proper size selection controls sealant bead depth and acts as a bond breaker to prevent back-side adhesion. Select a backer rod approximately 50% wider than the joint to ensure a tight, compressible fit.
Storage:
Store in a well-ventilated area. Do not store products in direct sunlight. Keep away from heat sources and open flames.
