CRL Sof® Rod (SKU: SR58B) is a dual-celled backer rod — a continuous extruded polyolefin foam with a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient internal structure combining open and closed cells. This advanced sealant backing material prevents out-gassing when the skin is ruptured, reducing sealant bubbling and failure. Chemically inert and compatible with virtually all cold-applied sealants, it also works with many self-leveling sealants.

CRL Sof® Rod is available in diameters from 3/8” to 2” (10 to 51 mm).

-45° to 160°F (-43° to 71°C)

Ideal for glazing sealant backing, curtain wall construction, parking deck and bridge joint backer rod, modular home gasketing, and log home chinking. Use when a dual-celled polyolefin backer rod or open-and-closed-cell backer rod is specified.

Size Selection:
Select an oversize backer rod 25–50% wider than the joint to ensure a tight fit; proper sizing controls sealant depth and prevents backside adhesion.

Storage:
Store in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Keep away from heat sources and open flames.

Joint Preparation:

• New joints: Remove form-release agents, curing compounds, and debris. Ensure the joint is clean and dry.
• Repairing old joints: Remove all old sealant or filler; use wire brushing and air blasting. If using compressed air, include moisture and oil traps.

Installation Instructions:

1. Prepare the surface per the Joint Preparation steps.
2. Measure and select: Choose the correct backer rod diameter for the joint width.
3. Set depth: Install the rod to the sealant manufacturer’s recommended depth so the sealant forms an hourglass profile.
4. Use the right tools: Install with a blunt tool or roller. For smooth installation use Cat. No. T607CU605 or Cat. No. SBRR.
