Each CRL FA Series 4/40 and 5/50 Weight Range Sash Balances requires one of several types of nylon guides that are riveted to the top and bottom of the metal channel. Customers can order channel balances with guides pre-attached from the factory, or order guide kits (rivets included) and install the guides themselves. CRL also offers Cat. No. H3740 Rivet Set Tool to mushroom the rivet for a stronger, professional set.

Ordering Tips for FA Series Sash Balances (SKU: FA1940 reference)

Remove the existing channel balance from the window and measure the metal channel only — do not include the nylon guides. Measure in full-inch increments and use the stamped or laser-etched number on the back of the channel balance (four numbers or two numbers and a letter) to identify the correct CRL Cat. No. For example, a stamped 1710 or 17-1 on an 18" channel corresponds to CRL Cat. No. FA1710; 2610 or 26-1 on a 27" channel corresponds to FA2610.

Notes on special lengths and weight ranges

Some manufacturers used special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths that are not stocked but can be special ordered. Stocked balance ranges run from FA1210 to FA4240. The 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 designations indicate the counter-balance weight range (vent weight per pair). If your balance shows 90 or 9, or a suffix like "DS" (for example 27DS-34), it indicates a special single weight design (e.g., 34 lb sash per pair) or a sash-specific balance. Provide this stamped information when ordering special-weight balances. The weight-range chart is for reference or when the stamped number is difficult to read; it does not account for excessive weatherstrip friction.
