Overview

  • Measures 5/8" (16 mm) depth — commonly referred to in the trade as 1/2" (13 mm)
  • Available in 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 weight-range balances in lengths from 13" to 43" (330 mm to 1.09 m)

Each CRL FA Series 4/40 and 5/50 Weight Range Sash Balance requires nylon top and bottom guides to be riveted to the channel. Order channel balances with guides pre-attached at the factory or choose guide kits (rivets included) to install yourself. For easier installation, CRL offers the Cat. No. H3740 Rivet Set Tool, which mushrooms the rivet for a strong, permanent set. Ideal for window sash balance replacement and CRL FA channel balances repair jobs. SKU reference: FA2140GW.

Ordering Tips for FA Series Sash Balances

Remove the existing channel balance from the window and measure the metal channel only — do not include the guides. Record the measurement in full-inch increments.

NOTE: A few manufacturers used special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths. These are not stocked but can be special ordered.

Always look for the stamped or laser-etched number on the back of the channel balance (four digits or two digits plus a dash and number), for example: 2710 or 27-1. Use that number to match the CRL catalog number. For example, a full 18" (457 mm) channel stamped 1710 or 17-1 corresponds to CRL Cat. No. FA1710; a full 27" channel stamped 2610 or 26-1 corresponds to FA2610.

The chart shows a vent weight range — the sash weight a pair of balances will support. This does not account for excessive weatherstrip friction. Use the weight-range chart for reference or when the stamped number is unreadable.

Special weight-range channel balances can be ordered to specification. Standard stocked balances cover FA1210 through FA4240. The 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 denote counter-balance weight designations. If the stamped number shows 90 or 9 (for example: 2790-26), or includes suffixes like "DS" (for example: 27DS-34), these indicate special weight configurations (e.g., 26 lb. or 34 lb. sash weight per pair) and may be designed for upper or lower sashes only. Provide this information when ordering special weight channel balances.

Product Warning:

The first two numbers of the CRL catalog number do not represent the channel length.
