Each CRL
FA Series 4/40 and 5/50 weight range sash balances (SKU FA2540) require nylon top and bottom guides riveted to the channel. Order channel balances with guides pre-attached or buy separate guide kits (rivets included) to install yourself. For professional rivet installation, use CRL Cat. No. H3740 Rivet Set Tool to mushroom the rivet for a strong set. These window channel balances and nylon guides are designed for easy retrofit and replacement in single- and double-hung windows.
Ordering Tips for FA Series Sash Balances Remove the existing channel balance from the window and measure the metal channel only — do not include the guides. Record the measurement at full-inch increments.
NOTE: A few manufacturers used special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths; these are not stocked but can be special ordered.
Always check the stamped or laser-etched identifier on the back of the channel balance (four numbers or two numbers and a letter, e.g., 2710 or 27-1). Use that identifier to find the matching CRL catalog number on the chart. For example, a full 18" (457 mm) channel stamped 1710 or 17-1 corresponds to CRL Cat. No. FA1710. A full 27" channel stamped 2610 or 26-1 corresponds to FA2610.
The chart shows the vent weight range — the sash weight a pair of channel balances will hold. This range does not account for excessive weatherstrip friction.
NOTE: Use the weight range chart for reference or when the stamped number is unreadable.
Special weight-range channel balances are available by special order. The standard stocked chart covers FA1210 to FA4240 with the 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 counter-balance designations. If the balance shows "90" or "9" (for example 2790-26), it was manufactured to carry a specific sash weight per pair (26 lb in that example). If the balance includes "DS" after the length (e.g., 27DS-34), it was made to carry a specific sash weight (34 lb) and may be designed for upper or lower sashes only — provide this information when ordering.
