Description
Overview
- Compatible for Insulating Glass Glazing
- Mildew Resistant Formula
- Excellent Adhesion to Most Surfaces
- Low Odor, Non-Acetic Cure Formula
SKU: RTV408T — CRL RTV408 Industrial and Construction Silicone is a neutral-cure, medium-modulus, 100% silicone sealant that cures to a tough, flexible rubber when exposed to moisture. Designed as a neutral cure silicone sealant for insulating glass glazing and general construction, RTV408 provides primerless adhesion to aluminum, stainless steel, most plastics, rigid PVC (vinyl), phenolic resin, glass, ceramic, and most reflective-coated glasses. All surfaces must be properly cleaned and the sealant tooled for good adhesion. Cat. No. S1L2100 Primer may be required for some substrates. Review crlaurence.com/sealants-technical for our Sealant Guidelines to Good Glazing.
Key features & differentiators:
- Primerless adhesion to many substrates — reduces prep time for glazing and window sealing jobs
- Low odor, non-acetic cure — suitable for indoor applications and sensitive environments
- Mildew-resistant formulations (RTV408W / RTV408T) for sanitary and exterior use
- Wide service temperature range: approximately -65°F to 400°F (-54°C to 204°C)
- Apply in ambient temperatures from -20°F to 100°F (-29°C to 38°C) on clean, dry, frost-free surfaces
- Non-corrosive to metals and suitable for alkaline substrates like mortar and cement
- Cartridges include 4" screw-on tapered nozzles (Cat. No. S1LN0Z available separately) for precise bead control and greater yield
- 20 year limited warranty; stays flexible for at least 10 years when properly applied
BASIC USES: Fast curing and easy tooling make RTV408 ideal for in-house production, curtainwall joints, vinyl/steel/aluminum windows, skylights, insulating glass seals, and non-structural marine or vehicle applications. Also used for electrical insulation and sanitary equipment sealing. Not recommended where metal corrosion risk is absent or where structural glazing is required.
LIMITATIONS: Not recommended for concrete and stone expansion joints, horizontal decks, patios, driveways
